Before my castration, I didn't know much very much about hormones. I had communicated with several Eunuchs, all of whom were taking hormone therapy. I couldn't understand why anyone would spend money to replace the testosterone that they had been castrated to eliminate.

I was determined to make it through being castrated without taking hormones.

I spent several years fighting the hormonal imbalance that my castration caused. Then I started taking a small dose of testosterone and I find that I feel much better now. The dose is small enough that my sex drive didn't return, but large enough to stabilize my body and my mind.

I have learned what the other Eunuchs learned: life without any testosterone SUCKS.

Testosterone has an important function in literally every part of the human body. It is vitally involved in the making of protein, which is required to make and maintain muscle. Testosterone is required to build and maintain bone. It helps oxygen uptake all throughout the body, helping to revitalize all tissues. It helps control blood sugar, regulate cholesterol, and helps to maintain a powerful immune system. Testosterone also appears to help in mental concentration and mood, as well as improving balance and coordination. Testosterone is likely to be important in preventing Alzheimer's disease.

The body also uses testosterone to manufacture several other hormones and essential substances.

In short, much of our life function is tied to the presence of either testosterone and or estrogen. Without these substances, our quality of life will deteriorate.
